Quattro laser sul Paranal

Il 26 aprile 2016, l'Osservatorio dell'ESO al Paranal in Cile ha ospitato un evento per celebrare la prima luce dei quattro potenti laser che costituiscono un pezzo cruciale del sistema di ottica adattiva del VLT (Very Large Telescope) dell'ESO. Ai partecipanti è stata mostrata la spettacolare esibizione della tecnologia laser d'avanguardia sullo sfondo dei cieli maestosi del Paranal. Queste sono le più potenti stelle guida laser mai usate in astronomia e l'evento segna il primo uso di stelle artificiali laser multiple all'ESO.
