EICMA 2011 Preview: Piaggio Beverly SportTouring With New 350cc Engine, ABS and Traction Control

Piaggio announced it will introduce a new scooter to its Beverly line featuring an all-new 350cc engine as well as ABS and traction control.Better known in the U.S.as the BV, the Beverly line is one of Piaggio’s best-selling scooter families with over 310,000 units sold since 2001.Here in the U.S., Piaggio is currently offering 278cc and 460cc versions while other markets also get a 125cc version.Set to debut at the 2011 EICMA show in Milan, the new 2012 Piaggio Beverly SportTouring 350 will debut a new powerplant Piaggio claims offers the performance of a 400cc engine but the smaller dimensions, weight and emissions as a 300cc engine.Piaggio claims an output of 33 hp from the 350cc engine, compared to 22hp from the 278cc engine and 39 hp from the 460cc engine.Claiming a first for a production scooter, Piaggio is also equipping the Beverly SportTouring 350 with anti-lock brakes and ASR traction control.
